About the event

Vihaan is a unique educators forum to help schools in structuring their teaching methodology to identify, develop and nurture essential life skills. We believe that this is the starting point of making early childhood skill development a ‘habit’ in schools to create leaders of tomorrow. On January 24th, 2019 the first conference happened at Taj Club House in Chennai.

To conclude the first session, Dinesh Victor asked the panelists a series of questions which was then followed by questions from school teachers and principals present at the conference. They discussed how it’s important to spend time building skills outside of studies and also encourage them to produce quality work, even if it takes them longer than the time assigned to them.

“Schools should give freedom to the students and give proper proportion to holistic formation, instead of focusing only on their marks,” Rev. Dr.Fr. Andrew, S.J (Principal of Loyola College, Chennai) said during his session.

Dr. C Muthamizhchelvan puts focus on letting students talk openly

When talking about how to help students in school, Dr. C Muthamizhchelvan (Director of Engineering & Technology, SRM Institute of Science & Technology) says, “We need to change our approach, talk less and allow them to talk more.”

At the end of the first session, Dinesh Victor along with the panelists spoke about how children should not be denied the chance to participate in sports and extracurricular activities. Schools should inspire children should take decisions for themselves, with the support of their teachers or parents.

Mr. C.K. Kumaravel on working towards becoming an entrepreneur

In his session, Mr. C.K. Kumaravel (Founder of Naturals Salon) said, “India has a lot of problems and each problem is a billion dollar opportunity. This is what an entrepreneurship is all about.”

Mr. M.V. Subramanian on encouraging every student to aim for the top

Mr. M.V. Subramanian (Co-Founder & M.D. of Future Focus Infotech Pvt. Ltd.), in his session at Vihaan, spoke about encouraging every single student to aim for the top, no matter their grades or aptitude.

At the end of the third session, it was discussed that entrepreneurship is not restricted to the people who that they have to be successful. All schools should provide the basic education that inspires students to become an entrepreneur. The common thread in the session was that “education is a base for entrepreneurship”.

In the final session at Vihaan, Prof. Dr. Sridhar Srivastava (Dean – NCERT, New Delhi) spoke about the importance of creativity and how it helps children do better in school and life.

Mr. Bali put emphasis on creativity at the school level and said, “We need to be creative so that we can introduce creativity to the children at an early age.”

In the discussion following the final session, Dinesh Victor and the panelists spoke about how every child in a school should be treated as an individual. It’s important for the schools to encourage the students to do what they love and provide them with the right kind of support to help them get ahead in life. But most importantly, children must be taught how to accept failure at any age.
